On-line Research and campaign

The aim of the research and the campaign in to understand the reasons and root causes of not participating in the democratic life of the EU, in order to identify the incentives to increase the citizens participation in the EUs’ policies shaping.


The on-line research, carried out on target groups, will be basis for the debate on reasons of not participating in the democratic life of the EU and incentives which can be introduced to increase citizens’ involvement.
The on-line research is structured on 4 main themes:

Through the campaign will be informed about the on-line research the widest audience, engaging as many citizens from various social groups as possible to take part and to share ideas.

Project presentation

The main aim of the project is to increase the level of engagement and democratic participation of the European Union citizens in the democratic life of the European Union being aware of the role they can have in shaping the EUs’ policies and thus the future of Europe.

The project is encouraging democratic and civic participation of citizens at Union level, by developing citizens' understanding of the Union policy making-process and promoting opportunities for social and intercultural engagement and volunteering at European Union level.

  • Providing an European public space where the issues related to low participation in the democratic life of the EU and ways of stimulating the active participation to be discussed;

  • Stimulating the democratic participation of the citizens who are not yet involved in the EU policies shaping by reaching them through information campaign and qualified environments of the active civil society organisations;

  • Strengthening and empowering democracy in the European Union through developing possible solutions for the major problems associated with low participation in the democratic life of the EU.


Results and follow-up

The conclusions developed during the International Citizen’s Forum will formulate feedback & recommendations for more active democratic participation of the EU citizens in a final document.


Exit Strategy

The project results will be used as an input for the further initiatives aiming at implementing the ides for increasing democratic participation of the EU citizens in the EUs policies and EUs’ future shaping.

Citizens Forums

The National Citizens Forums will be organized in all 4 countries of the partners.
The results of the on-line research will be discussed within working-groups run by experienced moderators, to develop solutions to increase the citizens active participation to the democratic life of the European Union.
The outcome of the National Citizens Forums will be gathered in national recommendations for active, democratic participation in the several thematic areas.

Within the Forums will be developed the Knowledge Pills, the key information and expertise gathered to increase the participation.

The International Citizens Forum:
Larnaca, Cyprus, on 15 – 18 October 2015, organised by Future World’s Centre (www.futureworldscenter.org)

The International Citizens Forum will be organised in Cyprus, on 15 – 18 October 2015. The Forum will gather participants from all partner countries for a face-to-face SDDP co-laboratory.
